The creators chose to write about Trini's death, with Kersh's Minh revealing that she died at Rita Repulsa's hands.

It has been a long time since Power Rangers ruled the television sets. Almost 30 years have passed and now the childhood nostalgia is about to hit back as now it’s Morphin’ time.

The Power Rangers are back with the trailer for Netflix’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, set 30 years after Fox aired the original show. The reunion special features the return of some of the franchise’s earliest cast members including David Yost’s blue ranger, yellow ranger, pink ranger, and many others.

The trailer introduced the new character Minh Kwan (Charlie Kersh), who is the daughter of Yellow Ranger Trini Kwan. Thuy Trang, who played the Yellow Ranger in the original series, died in a car accident in 2001. The creators chose to write about Trini’s death, with Kersh’s Minh revealing that she died at Rita Repulsa’s hands.

“Thirty years after the wise and powerful Zordon founded the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the team faces a familiar threat from the past,” reads the synopsis. “In the midst of a global crisis, you are called once again to be the heroes the world needs. This 30th Anniversary Special is inspired by the franchise’s iconic mantra “Once a Ranger, Always a Ranger,” meaning that once you become part of the Ranger family, you’re always welcome back.” (Hollywood Reporter)

The Power Rangers franchise lost another of its original members in November 2022 when Jason David Frank, who played the green-and-white Ranger, died. It’s unclear how, if at all, the 30th anniversary special will address the loss. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always comes to Netflix on April 19.
