Monkey Man Actor-Director Dev Patel Gets Emotional Due To An Elder Man’s Heart Touching Response

The Monkey Man artist shares about his emotional encounter with an old man at SXSW during the film's screening.

The Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel recently talked about how he was very emotional at an elderly man’s response after seeing Monkey Man. The film was written, directed and produced by Dev, who also acted in the Monkey Man. Due to his recent directorial debut, he is currently receiving a lot of positive feedback and critical accolades. At the film’s SXSW screening last month, the actor was also recently seen fighting back tears.

In a conversation with Digital Spy, Dev Patel expresses about a fan’s reaction after watching his film Monkey Man and revealed getting ‘very emotional’ about the same. He shared, “When we went to SXSW, an older Indian man came to me and he shook my hand. As I was going to leave, he held on to me and said: ‘I am jealous of my son’. And I go, ‘That’s a weird thing to say.’ He then continued, and he goes, ‘He’s 14 years old and he’s lucky that he’s going to have someone like you representing him in a film like this, and I never had that’. And I was very emotional when he said that.”

While conducting an ‘ask me anything’ session on Reddit, Patel also shared about the difficulties which the team faced during the shoot of their movie, “We only had three or four break-away tables, so once I would perform a huge bulk of stunts, I would scream CUT and then immediately, all of us would get on our hands and knees looking for all of the broken pieces of wood to glue the tables back together for the next shot.”

For the unversed The Monkey Man stars Dev Patel, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sikander Kher, Makarand Deshpande, Pitobash and Vipin Sharma in significant roles. The movie made its grand debut at the silver screens on 5th April 2024.
