This Sunday was Disney Night on American Idol, and Katy Perry dressed as The Little Mermaid character. The pop star kept up her tradition of rocking an elaborate costume for the occasion, and this year might be the most cumbersome of them all. She donned a full mermaid tail, a purple shell as top, red plastic wig for a final ensemble that truly made her look like a living cartoon character.
The outfit stole the spotlight at the top of Sunday’s big show. However, Katy Perry falls out of the chair on American Idol while wearing Ariel’s mermaid costume on Disney night. Perry shared the video of her funny fall on Twitter and wrote, “Flippin’ your fins you don’t get too far.” The video showcased host Ryan Seacrest’s introduction getting interrupted by a crashing noise after which he was seen reacting in shock.
The camera then showed Katy off the chair with her mermaid tail facing up. She was then helped by her co-judges, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan to get up. The singer herself enjoyed a good laugh over the incident and after she was back up on her chair. Meanwhile, Perry also took fans behind the scenes to share how difficult it was to even wear that dress. While taking to Instagram, Katy Perry shared a series of behind the scenes photos and videos.
The first slide shows Katy lying on the floor and other team members were helping her to fit in Mermaid’s tail. In another video, as Katy had trouble walking in the rigid costume, she was helped by fellow judges Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan. Alongside a series of photos and videos, the pop star penned in the caption, “some BTS of a lil Sunday sushi,” while adding the hashtag ‘American idol.’
