Hollywood Strike Results In ‘Dune: Part Two’ Release Shift To March, ‘Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire’ To Release In April

This Decision Poses A Challenge For Cinema Chains Such As AMC Entertainment, Cineplex, And Cinemark, As They Continue To Recover From The Impacts Of The Covid-19 Pandemic

The ongoing Hollywood strike has caused delays in film and web series production. The latest reports indicate that ‘Dune: Part Two,’ initially set for a November release, has now been postponed to the following year. According to Hindustan Times, ‘Dune: Part Two’ is rescheduled for a March release due to the Hollywood actors’ strike preventing stars from engaging in promotional activities.

This decision poses a challenge for cinema chains such as AMC Entertainment, Cineplex, and Cinemark, as they continue to recover from the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. ‘Dune’ was among the highly anticipated films on the late 2023 schedule.

‘Dune: Part Two’ is now slated to premiere on March 15, a date originally reserved for Warner Bros.’ film ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.’ Consequently, the monster movie’s release has been pushed to April 12. This adjustment has also led to the animated adaptation of ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ initially planned for an April launch, being rescheduled for December.

Featuring Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet, ‘Dune: Part Two’ is a sci-fi sequel inspired by Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel. The storyline revolves around an intergalactic conflict for control over a valuable resource. The first installment of the series was released in 2021 during the pandemic and managed to achieve an impressive global box office revenue of $402 million.

It’s worth noting that notable actors have chosen to abstain from promotional endeavors for their upcoming projects since the SAG-AFTRA actors union joined the striking Hollywood writers, resulting in a walkout on July 14. This actors’ strike has subsequently compelled several film studios to revise their schedules due to the absence of celebrities available to participate in events like red carpet premieres and talk shows, which traditionally contribute to building anticipation and enthusiasm for new releases.
