Hollywood actor Tom Holland has recently opened up about the challenging phase in his life, and in a candid revelation, the Spider-Man star shared the difficulties he faced while embarking on the path to sobriety.
During a guest appearance on the podcast “On Purpose with Jay Shetty,” Holland expressed that becoming sober has been “the best thing” he has ever done, despite the hardships he encountered along the way. Reflecting on his journey, he explained, “I didn’t just wake up one day and decide to give up drinking. Like many Brits, I had a very boozy December during the Christmas season while on vacation. I’ve always had the ability to consume a lot of alcohol, and I credit that to my mom’s genes.”
The actor further disclosed that he initially committed to abstaining from alcohol for the month of January, but found it incredibly challenging. “All I could think about was having a drink. It consumed my thoughts. I would wake up fixated on it and check the clock, waiting for it to reach noon,” he revealed.
Overwhelmed by the desire to drink, Holland recognized the potential risks and extended his abstinence period to February. However, even after two months, he continued to struggle, feeling limited in social situations. “I felt like I couldn’t be social. I couldn’t go to the pub and have a lime soda. I couldn’t go out for dinner,” he shared, acknowledging the influence of British drinking culture. Consequently, he decided to extend the pact to abstain from alcohol for six months.
During this time, Holland started noticing the positive aspects of not drinking. “By the time June 1 rolled around, I was the happiest I’ve ever been in my life. I experienced improved sleep, better problem-solving abilities, and an enhanced ability to handle setbacks. I had mental clarity and felt healthier and fitter,” he explained.
Remarkably, Holland’s commitment to sobriety even influenced his mother, as he revealed, “She’s loving it, and the difference I feel from not drinking is incredible. I can’t believe the transformation. I feel amazing.”
