Gender reveal parties are nowadays seen as a very common trend that’s like a norm for all the expecting parents. But according to Demi’s recent instagram session, it can be seen as a harmful thing to the members of the transgender community.

A part of the caption that is a repost from the gender nonconforming activist Alok Menon is, “Transphobia is not just prejudice or violence against an individual trans person, it is a belief system that presumes non-trans people to be more ‘natural’ than trans people. Only individual people can self determine their gender”.

Following up this post, an insider in quote to a leading internationally renowned digital entertainment portal was quoted saying, “Demi is very committed to be an ally to the trans community. She feels a real responsibility to speak up because she has this huge platform, she knows the impact she can have. And, she identifies as queer”.

That source furthermore also added, “This is her community, it’s personal for her. The past few years she’s made a big effort to learn more and to understand the trans experience more. And the more she learns, the more she sees all that needs to change”.

He also went on and added this bit, “She wants to open people’s eyes and hearts. Demi is not afraid of any sort of backlash. She will continue to push for trans rights and to use her platform to help educate people. Demi’s a hopeful person, and she does believe that things can change and get better. But she knows if no one ever speaks up, then nothing will change. And she’s not afraid to be the person that speaks up”.
