BTS To Exempt From The ‘Military Service’? Here’s What The Presidential Committee Suggests!

As the debate continues, HYBE labels, in an official statement have revealed the band's decision of joining the mandatory military enlistment and their decision not to be exempt.

And so the debate continues, to be or not to be exempted? It’s a no brainer, HYBE labels and the band members themselves have time and again expressed their desire of serving in the Military several times in the past, yet rumours have been making rounds that a presidential transition committee is said to visit the corporation’s office in Seoul to discuss exempting the boys from the mandatory military service. However, the committee has denied the claims of the rumours and stated that the sole purpose of the meeting is to only discuss issues faced in the South Korean entertainment industry. While the septuplet’s stance on the matter remains the same, their intention of voluntarily fulfilling their military responsibilities remains unchanged.

For the unversed, mandatory military service is a public duty of each Korean national, referring to the same, Yeonhap, a news agency of South Korea reacted to this. In their statement, they said, “Mandatory military service is a public duty set by the Constitution and we must be prudent about granting exceptions. We can’t deny (BTS’s) contribution to the nation, but we must be careful because it will be hard to draw the line if we expand (the scope of exceptions) like this.”

While it is mandatory for all citizens to serve for a duration of 20 months between the age group of 18 to 28 years, this has raised a common concern for all the BTS fans globally, as they would have to give up singing for the time of their service.
