Mark Margolis, the actor known for his role as the drug lord Hector Salamanca in the popular TV series ‘Breaking Bad,’ has passed away at the age of 83. He also portrayed the same character in the show ‘Better Call Saul.’
Mark Margolis died on Thursday at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City after a brief illness, as announced by his son, Morgan Margolis, who is also an actor and CEO of Knitting Factory Entertainment.
Born in Philadelphia in 1939, Mark moved to New York when he was young to pursue his acting career. He had a passion for theater and appeared in numerous Broadway musicals, including ‘Infidel Caesar.’ Throughout his career, he performed in more than 50 Off-Broadway productions, such as ‘Uncle Sam’ and ‘The Golem.’
Bryan Cranston, the lead actor of ‘Breaking Bad,’ expressed his sadness on Instagram upon hearing the news of Margolis’s passing. He posted pictures of them together and praised Mark as not only a talented actor but also a wonderful person. Bryan recalled how Mark could be fun and engaging off the set, yet intimidating and frightening while portraying his character on the show.
In addition to his iconic roles in ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul,’ Mark Margolis appeared in various television shows, including ‘The Equalizer,’ ‘Oz,’ ‘Kings,’ and ‘American Horror Story: Asylum.’ He also made guest appearances in ‘Californication,’ ‘Gotham,’ ‘Crossing Jordan,’ and ‘The Affair,’ as reported by Variety.
