When Sanjay Dutt Shouted Ranbir Kapoor For Doing ‘Barfi’ And Said, ‘What Made You Do A Film Like That? Bloody Hell’

To Ranbir's Surprise, Sanjay, With A Straight Face, Informed Him That The Film Would Be Titled 'Laddoo’

Sanjay Dutt, known for his macho personality in Bollywood, also gained immense fame for his distinct walk in the industry. However, when the biopic “Sanju” was being made on his life, he initially had reservations about Ranbir Kapoor playing his character.

According to DNA newspaper reports, during a Diwali party hosted by Sanjay Dutt at his house, Ranbir Kapoor, Rajkumar Hirani, and David Dhawan were in attendance. As the evening progressed and Sanjay started drinking, he approached Ranbir with an intriguing proposition. He expressed his desire to produce a film and asked if Ranbir would be interested in being a part of it. Ranbir enthusiastically replied, “Yes, of course, I would love to be a part of it.”

To Ranbir’s surprise, Sanjay, with a straight face, informed him that the film would be titled ‘Laddoo,’ followed by other sweet-themed titles like “Imarti,” “Jalebi,” and “Peda.” This left Ranbir puzzled, unsure of the direction Sanjay was taking with these peculiar titles.

Sanjay said, “I watched Barfi! on TV recently. What made you do a film like that? bloody hell, you are playing me in the Sanjay Dutt biopic. I don’t know how they cast you.”

In his intoxicated state, Sanjay proceeded to criticize Ranbir for his role in the film “Barfi!” He questioned Ranbir’s choice to do a film like that and expressed his disapproval, emphasizing that as the actor playing him in the biopic, Ranbir should stick to more macho and action-oriented roles. Sanjay believed that connecting with the masses through such characters was essential for an actor’s longevity in the industry.

Despite the drunken tirade, Ranbir remained composed, understanding the situation. Manyata, Sanjay’s wife, intervened to rescue Ranbir and defuse the tension. She suggested that everyone should have dinner as it was getting late, diverting the conversation away from the awkward exchange.

This incident highlighted the complexity of emotions and dynamics in the film industry, even among well-established actors and their counterparts. Although the moment was charged with candidness and a bit of discomfort, it ultimately passed, leaving a memorable anecdote from the eventful Diwali party hosted by Sanjay Dutt.
