Neena Gupta Story Shed Light On The Challenges And Prejudices Individuals Face When Their Life Choices Do Not Conform To Societal Norms

Neena Gupta gained significant attention when she gave birth to her daughter, Masaba, whose father is the renowned cricketer Vivian Richards. This unconventional situation led to Neena facing backlash and derogatory comments. However, Neena once shared a startling account of a renowned journalist who went to extreme lengths to uncover Masaba’s father’s name by stealing her birth certificate from the registrar’s office, intending to publish it in his weekly magazine.

In an interview with India Today, Neena Gupta recounted the incident, saying, “He sent somebody. So my bua, I was living with my bua, so she went and she submitted. They said come after one week, we’ll give you the birth certificate. So she went after one week and they said, ‘Wo toh le gaye aapke koi rishtedaar.’ By chance, I knew somebody who knew that person, usse pata chala ke he sent somebody and then he wrote an article. Wo pade likhe log karte hai toh tumhara toh kya bolenge,” she shared with Rajdeep Sardesai.

Neena Gupta boldly revealed the journalist’s name who committed this act and recounted how she referred to him as a ‘ba****d,’ which ended up being displayed on hoardings.

In an interview with the Indian Express, Masaba was questioned about having a child out of wedlock, to which she responded, “Being a modern woman, do I have the guts to have a baby out of wedlock? Never. I don’t want to take that extra pressure and put a child in that space.”

She further expressed her views, stating, “I have been labeled as too modern for being born out of wedlock. It’s wonderful to be modern, but there’s no one-size-fits-all definition. I believe that the responsibility of being modern is to be accepted. However, our society has become less tolerant. It seems like we are regressing.”
