Vivek Agnihotri Wanted To Cast Ratna Pathak Shah In ‘The Tashkent Files’

Pallavi Joshi revealed in an inteview that director Vivek Agnihotri had planned to cast Ratna Pathak Shah in 'The Tashkent Files'.

Vivek Agnihotri started his career as a director in the year 2005 with the film ‘Chocolate’. Since then, he has delivered several remarkable films. Be it a commercial film like ‘Hate Story’, or path-breaking films like ‘The Tashkent Files’ and ‘The Kashmir Files’, Vivek has created his own niche in the Hindi film industry.

Vivek Agnihotri’s wife Pallavi Joshi is an integral part of his most recent films. In ‘The Tashkent Files’ and ‘The Kashmir Files’, she can be seen pulling off grey characters.

In a recent interview with senior journalist Bharathi S Pradhan, Pallavi revealed that she wasn’t Vivek’s first choice to play the role of historian (Aiysha Ali Shah) in ‘The Tashkent Files’. Instead, he had planned to cast Ratna Pathak Shah.

Pallavi said during the interview, “When we were casting for ‘The Kashmir Files’, Vivek said that there is no character for you in this. I said, ‘I wish I was 20 years younger, I would have played Raagini Phule’. So, we had a little laugh about it. And then I said, why not Aiysha Ali Shah. Vivek said that he had imagined her as an old woman with grey hair. He was thinking more on the lines of casting Ratna Pathak Shah for that character. So, I said, ‘No, No, I want to do this. This is a good challenge because I haven’t done anything challenging for a very long time.’ So, I said that I’ll go to any extent and I will get this character. I started working on the character and got my hair painted white. It wasn’t the whitener. I actually got them bleached. It was a lot of fun playing that character.”

She further added that during ‘The Tashkent Files’, Vivek realised that she can pull off negative characters and therefore, she was given another role in ‘The Kashmir Files’.
