Vicky Kaushal Reveals Not Feeling ”Handsome Enough” To Portray Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw’s Character On Screen

At the trailer launch event of Meghna Gulzar's next cinematic creation 'Sam Bahadur', Vicky Kaushal talks about why he thought of not getting casted as- Lead in Field Marshal 'Sam Manekshaw's' Biopic.

Meghna Gulzar’s highly anticipated autobiographical war-genre film ‘Sam Bahadur’ is all set to hit the silver screens this December. The movie being based on the life journey of Indian Army’s First- Field Marshal ‘Sam Manekshaw’ sir; casts ‘Vicky Kaushal’, ‘Sanya malhotra’ and ‘Fatima Sana Shaikh’ in pivotal roles on board. Meghna’s directorial revolves around the period of 1971: Indo-Pak war which led to the independence of ‘East Pakistan’ and creation of a new nation-state ‘Bangladesh’ for which the ‘Indian Army’ took charge. The filmmaker’s last spy-drama release ‘Raazi’ featuring the versatile ‘Alia Bhatt’ and ‘Vicky Kaushal’ was also set up around R&AW V/s ISI’s plot prior to the 1971 war.

Vicky Kaushal has garnered decent amount of praises for his acting-skill set by a segment of people now over the years , but it seems the artist is still a bit underconfident regarding his looks and style. Recently at the trailer launch event of ‘Sam Bahadur’ which was also graced by the- Indian Army Chief ‘General Manoj Pande’, Vicky recalled Meghna’s desire of making a film on legendary ‘Sam Manekshaw’ sir’s life back then: ”I remember when Meghna and I were working on ‘Raazi’, then during a shooting schedule in Patiala she told me what she wanted to do next. And she said she wants to make a film on Sam Manekshaw.”

Elaborating about Field Marshal Manekshaw’s solid-bossy personality in comparison to Vicky, the actor expressed “My mother and father are both from Punjab, and through them, I had heard a lot about him. But I didn’t know how he looked. So during that conversation, I secretly Googled him and saw his photo. I said, ‘He is very handsome and I will not get this role.’ But I have to thank Meghna for giving me the role of this handsome person.”

Backed by Ronnie Screwvala’s Banner ‘RSVP Movies’ the venture is slated to release on the 1st of December in turn clashing with ‘Ranbir Kapoor’ starrer action-saga ‘Animal’ creating humongous buzz and hype amongst the audiences country wide.
