25 Years Of Sarfarosh: Aamir Khan On Working With Sonali Bendre & Director John Matthew

Aamir Khan was doubtful when director John Matthew told him the story of the film, but Aamir said that John had done a really great job.

Aamir Khan’s Sarfarsoh completed 25 years of its release on April 30. The film united the huge star cast on a single screen and was one of the most successful films both commercially and critically. Sarfarosh’s Ajay Singh Rathod received tremendous love from the audiences. To celebrate the silver jubilee of the film, the entire star cast will have a small meet-up session on May 10. On the occasion of completing 25 years, let’s have a throwback to an old conversation with Aamir where the actor shared many exclusive insights into the movie. 

In an exclusive interview with Lehren, Aamir talked about the film Sarfarosh, its core, strength, working with co stars, director and many others. The film is about the proxy war that Pakistan was fighting against India through ISI. When the director John Matthew first approached Aamir for the movie, he was little skeptical about the director and the story because John was a fresher then, he had experience of ad films and not a feature film. Aamir put his first impression into words, saying, “Naam angreji hai, Hindi film kya banayega.” But John filmed his direction in a classic manner and made the film in an understanding way. Aamir lauded the director, saying, “He has made a very good film. As a director I am really happy with him.”

The Lagaan actor shed some light on the meaning of Sarfarosh, which means that every person who is ready to sacrifice his/her life for a cause. 3 Idiots actor praised his co-actress Sonali Bendre, “I feel this is one of her better performances. She has done really well.” He also praised the senior actor Naseeruddin Shah. He said, “Bahot hi badiya artist hai who.
