Throwback To The Most Interesting Love Story Of ‘Bollywood/Hollywood’

The 'Bollywood/Hollywood' movie gave a new version of the old song 'Chin Chin Choo', and it gained love from the audiences.

In the era of action-packed movies, let’s reflect on some light, fun-oriented films Bollywood has given us. ‘Bollywood/Hollywood’ is one of them. Written and directed by Deepa Mehta, the film is about a guy from India who falls in love with a foreign girl when they actually act that they are in love with each other due to the condition of the protagonist’s mother. It ensembles the huge star cast of Rahul Khanna, Lisa Ray, Dina Pathak, Moushumi Chatterjee, Kulbhushan Kharbanda in one frame. The remake of the song ‘Chin Chin Choo’ is the best part of the entire film.

In a conversation with Lehren Retro, the entire team of Bollywood/Hollywood shared insights into the film and process of film-making at the music launch of the film. Lisa Ray talked about her experience of this musical romantic comedy, saying, “On a personal level, it’s been a wonderful experience, I think I’ve evolved as a performer. It’s a very interesting fusion of east and west.” The music director Sandeep Chowta, who adeptly handled the music of the film, put his experience into words, “The film is a big party. It’s a very colourful film with lots of Indian sentiments and sensibilities. Lots of voices being used so all around it’s a very enjoyable affair.” He said that there were not many chances he got where he can use his original songs as background elements, but Deepa Mehta’s film has given him that chance.

Rahul Khanna lauded Sandeep saying, “He has taken the essence of the film, and he has put it into the film.” Even Lisa praised him, sharing an incident, “There were many white Canadians who would come out of theatres humming the music and asking where can we buy this.” Though the film released in 2002 wasn’t a commercial hit, it received appreciation for its best screenplay.
