Actress Preity Zinta found herself entangled in controversy due to accusations made by another actress, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, regarding her past marriage to renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur.
Suchitra Krishnamoorthi and Shekhar Kapur, who have been divorced for 15 years, became the focal point of discussion when Suchitra attributed the failure of her marriage to Preity Zinta and accused her ex-husband of infidelity.
During an interview with RJ Kannan, Krishnamoorthi disclosed that Kapur prohibited her from working post-marriage, believing that showbiz corrupted people. She revealed the pain and difficulty of her marriage, expressing her longing for her previous stardom.
She recounted her parents’ objections to her marriage due to the significant age gap between her and Kapur, as well as his prior divorce and association with the film industry. Despite their warnings, she proceeded with the marriage, acknowledging her responsibility for her choices.
Krishnamoorthi acknowledged Kapur’s infidelity, emphasizing that marriages crumble due to disrespect rather than solely due to unfaithfulness.
Following the divorce, Krishnamoorthi penned a poem accusing Preity Zinta of being in a relationship with Shekhar Kapur, labeling her a ‘maneater.’
However, once Zinta responded, dismissing the allegations and questioning Krishnamoorthi’s mental state.
“I am the number one actress and you don’t even work, you are a homemaker. Suchitra, don’t talk to me like that. You need to see a psychiatrist, your mind is not in the right place,” she said.
And in another interview with the channel Bollywood Thikana, Krishnamoorthi replied, “It’s a free world and she can say what she likes. I am very proud to be a homemaker. I was a full-time mom for 20 years and I am very proud of it. I don’t need to forgive her. She is not a part of my consciousness at all. All these things do not exist for me, which is a good space to be in.”
