Shah Rukh Khan, a bright and successful name in the B-Town, has worked with different filmmakers, may it be a debut director or an established one. He has shared the screen with different co-actors. And from romance to action, King Khan deftly portrayed himself in various genres. ‘Swades’ was altogether a different film than a complete action or complete romance. It is the story of an NRI who returns to India for a specific reason but somehow finds his own roots in the journey. In an exclusive interview with Lehren, the Dunki actor shared the reason behind, doing ‘Swades’, released in the year 2004.
Whenever Shah Rukh Khan makes any film, the only expectation he has is that it should be loved by audiences. He reflected on the subject of Swades, “Swades is a strongly issue-based film and Ashutosh has a belief in the film. He is very confident about the film.” Swades was not only directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, but it was co-produced by him with UTV Pictures. “My reason for doing Swades is Ashutosh is an old friend and I think he is a great film director. He believes the topic is a very important thing”, he added.
Shah Rukh also shed light on his criteria behind making films. He never keeps any expectations that his film would get selected for the Oscar. Filmfare nominations or Oscar nominations for the film is never his criteria. Shah Rukh Khan explained, “I do films because I like the subject or story line or the people who are making the film.”
Though Swades was a box office flop, it received critical appreciation from many, and it is the highest rated film of king Khan. The film received many nominations for the Zee Cine Awards and Filmfare Awards and even won many awards.
