The event was hosted by Salman Khan and Arijit went on stage to receive an award. Salman playful teased Arijit for his super casual attire to which the singer replied, “Aap logon ne sula diya (You all put me to sleep).” This apparantely didn’t go well with Salman who then removed Arijit’s songs from his upcoming films including Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kick, and Sultan, leaving fans disappointed.

In 2016, Arijit publicly apologized to Salman, fervently pleading for the retention of his version of the song in Sultan. Expressing his remorse, Arijit clarified, “…you (Salman) are mistaken about the fact that I insulted you.” With a heartfelt plea, he expressed his desire to retire with at least one of Salman’s songs in his collection, imploring Salman to consider his request.
