Popular radio announcer, Ameen Sayani passed away in Mumbai on Tuesday at the age of 91, following a heart attack. His son Rajil Sayani confirmed his father’s demise to Indianexpress.com. Ameen Sayani, known for hosting the beloved show Binaca Geetmala, will be laid to rest on Thursday. The family is awaiting the arrival of some relatives in Mumbai on Wednesday before proceeding with the funeral arrangements.

Rajil Sayani mentioned that his father experienced a heart attack on Tuesday night. They rushed him to HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai, where he passed away. He conveyed to the portal, “The doctors at the hospital attended him but couldn’t save him and he was declared dead.”

Who Was Ameen Sayani?

Ameen Sayani, known for his iconic introduction “Namaskar bhaiyon aur behno, main aapka dost Ameen Sayani bol raha hoon” on Radio Ceylon, was born in Mumbai on December 21, 1932. He became famous for his long-running show Binaca Geetmala, which aired from 1952, initially on Radio Ceylon and later on Vividh Bharati (AIR), spanning over 42 years.

Since 1951, Ameen Sayani has been involved in producing, compiling, or speaking for over 54,000 radio programs and 19,000 spots/jingles. Additionally, he made appearances in various movies over the years, including Bhoot Bungla, Teen Devian, Boxer, and Qatl, portraying the role of an announcer in certain events in each of these films.
