Naseeruddin Shah Unhappy With Success Of Gadar 2, The Kerala Story, And Kashmir Files, Says ‘It’s A Dangerous Trend’

This Isn't The First Time The Actor Has Criticized Such Films For Perpetuating False Narratives In Society

Naseeruddin Shah never minces his words and speaks his mind when he believes that things are heading in the wrong direction. The actor recently commented on how movies like “The Kerala Story,” “Gadar 2,” and “Kashmir Files” have achieved massive success at the box office, while films by acclaimed directors are not receiving due recognition.

In an interview with FPJ, the actor stated, “What these people don’t realize is that what they are doing is very harmful. In fact, films like ‘The Kerala Story’ and ‘Gadar 2,’ though I haven’t seen them, I know their themes, and it’s disturbing that films like ‘Kashmir Files’ are immensely popular, whereas films made by Sudhir Mishra, Anubhav Sinha, and Hansal Mehta, who strive to depict the truth of their times, go unnoticed.”

He further expressed, “A hundred years from now, people will watch ‘Bheed’ and also ‘Gadar 2’ to determine which one truly reflects the reality of our times because film is the only medium capable of doing that.”

“It’s alarming that filmmakers are being coerced into creating films that glorify the wrong things and vilify other communities for no valid reason. It’s a dangerous trend,” he concluded.

This isn’t the first time the actor has criticized such films for perpetuating false narratives in society. He had previously called out filmmakers for disseminating falsehoods through their films.

Earlier, Naseer had stated that it has become fashionable to harbor prejudice against Muslims. In an interview with The Indian Express, the actor remarked, ” Oh sure, these are worrying times absolutely. The kind of stuff that’s pure, undisguised propaganda is being lapped up and it’s a reflection of the zeitgeist of the times. Muslim hatred is fashionable these days, even among educated people. It’s what the ruling party has very cleverly tapped into this nerve. We talk about secular this, democracy that, so why are you introducing religion into everything?.”

“The Kerala Story,” “Gadar 2,” and “Kashmir Files” made headlines during their releases. Nevertheless, these films enjoyed tremendous success at the box office.
