‘Lal Salaam’ is a slogan created by ‘Communists’ in the Indian Subcontinent, A symbol of salute, greetings or code word used by comrades of South Asia: where Lal means “Red” in Hindi and Salam means “Peace” in Arabic.
In latest trends- ‘Lal Salaam’ is also an upcoming Indian Tamil-language sports drama directed by ‘Aishwarya Rajinikanth’, slated to release in Telugu and Hindi too. Produced by ‘Subaskaran Allirajah’ under Lyca Productions, it stars ‘Vishnu Vishal’ and ‘Vikranth’ as leads, alongside ‘Rajinikanth’ in an extended cameo appearance. This venture was announced back in November 2022 in addition with its title. The principal photography of the same kick started in March 2023 in turn wrapping up in August 2023. With ‘A.R Rahman’s’ music compositions & cinematography by ‘Vishnu Rangasamy’, the stills of the movie are edited by ‘B. Pravin Baaskar’. The mega project is scheduled for its theatrical release on 12 January 2024, coinciding with Pongal.
One of the earlier films made with the title ‘Lal Salaam’ was released back during 1990 in Malayalam language; revolving around lives of three communists in Kerala, South India. The story Projected two phases of these on screen comrades lives- before and after the imprisonment of ‘Sakhavu Stephen Nettooran’ (Mohanlal- inspired from Varghese Vaidyan), ‘Sakhavu D.K. Antony’ (Murali- inspired from T. V. Thomas) and ‘Sakhavu Sethulakshmi’ (Geetha- inspired from K. R. Gowri Amma), all members of the ‘Communist Party of India’. The political drama directed by ‘Venu Nagavalli’ was produced under the prominent ‘K. R. G.’ banner. It stars Mohanlal, Murali, Geetha, and Urvashi. Emerging as a blockbuster the movie graced a 150 days run at 7 centres after its release.
Another film with the exact same title ‘Lal Salaam’, was created in 2002- A Bollywood musical action drama starring ‘Nandita Das’, ‘Sharad Kapoor’, ‘Raj Pal Yadav’ and ‘Sayaji Shinde’. Directed by ‘Gagan Vihari Borate’, the movie was premiered on 3rd May 2002. Revolving around the life of ‘Rupi’ and ‘Kanna’ a childhood couple, where Rupi realises that the village tribes are main victims of police brutality and the government is unresponsive and unreachable, resulting in making poor people armed rebels. Whereas, Kanna is an intelligent-educated student studying MBBS who believes in non-violence.
