Karan Johar speaks on how Bollywood was vilified in two years, Ranveer says it was unwarranted

Karan Johar has returned to the coffee couch to interact with celebrities. Bollywood filmmaker is back with the brand new season of Koffee with Karan. In season 7 of the chat show, the first guests for the first episode were the Rocky Aur Rani ki Prem Kahani pair. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt opened the Koffee with Karan season 7 spilling some juiciest and most candid conversations.  During the first episode of the show that is aired on Disney+ Hotstar Karan Johar addressed how Bollywood was vilified in past years.

Initially, KJo had no plans to launch a new season and thought of stopping the franchise at season 6. Karan recalled a conversation with Alia Bhatt when they discussed the host didn’t think season 7 of Koffee with Karan would happen. He said: “Alia, you and I were just discussing that we never thought this would happen. I never thought I would come back.” To this Bhatt responded: “Yeah. I didn’t think. I thought we are done. I was quite sad.”

Karan further added to explain his point: “We as an industry were vilified. We were put in the dungeon for two years. Even I went through a lot and it was not an easy time. And at that point of time, it was like the snake emojis used to come out every time Koffee with Karan was mentioned. And at one point I also thought that I am never going to come back with the show because there was a lot of attack.”

Ranveer then jumped in calling the accusations baseless, unfair, and unwarranted. The director of Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani agreed to it stating faceless and nameless people were saying it. “I had no doubt that you would do more and more seasons of this show because all of that was baseless, unfair, and unwarranted,” Mr. Singh said.

The trio is working together on the upcoming movie Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The Gully Boy pair has been roped again for Karan Johar’s next directorial after Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 2016. Along with Ranveer and Alia, the film stars Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi. The movie is set to hit the theaters on 10th February 2023.
