Karan Johar Finally Speaks About ‘The Kashmir Files’

As Vivek Agnihotri's film 'The Kashmir Files' rakes over Rs 330 cr at the box office, filmmaker Karan Johar breaks silence on the film's success.

Vivek Agnihotri has created a revolution at the box office with his latest film ‘The Kashmir Files’. The film managed to touch the hearts of millions as it told the lesser-known tale of exodus and genocide of Kashmiri Hindus back in 1990. The small budget film with no support from mainstream media and promotional money did exceptionally well at the box office. The Bollywood celebrities also took a long time to acknowledge the film and its success.

Karan Johar, one of the biggest filmmakers in Hindi cinema, has finally talked about Vivek Agnihotri’s film. In an interview, he appreciated the box office collections of the film as he said, “The Kashmir Files is not made on the budget like a lot of other movies. But it is probably going to be cost-to-profit the biggest hit of Indian cinema. I read on Box Office India and they said that such a movement hasn’t happened since Jai Santoshi Maa, since 1975.”

Further elaborating his point of view, Karan Johar said, “You have got to acknowledge there is something that is connecting with this nation and academically you have to watch it. You have to watch it to absorb, to learn from it that look, there is this movement that has happened. It’s no longer a film, it’s a movement.”

‘The Kashmir Files’ was written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri. It features Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi and Darshan Kumaar in the leading roles. The film was released in theatres on 11th March and with the word of mouth publicity, earned Rs 330 cr at the box office.

Talking about Karan Johar, his next directorial ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ featuring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt is expected to release in Feb 2023.
