During the Grammy 2024 night, Indian singers Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain bagged a Grammy for their fusion band “Shakti”. The singer’s band Shakti won the Grammy’s award for ‘Best Global Music Album’ on Monday for their latest album ‘This Moment’.
During the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, Indian singer Shankar Mahadevan and his fellow members from his fusion band Shakti won a Grammy award for ‘Best Global Music Album’. Shakti which is a collaboration featuring Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), John McLaughlin (guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), V.Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist), was awarded the Grammy Award for their work, “The Moment”.
The acceptance speech of the singer, Mahadevan is now going viral on social media. While accepting the Grammy Shankar Mahadevan said, “Thank you boys. Thank you God, family, friends, and India. India, we are proud of you…Last but not the least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife whom every note of my music is dedicated to.”
On the other hand, Zakir Hussain bagged “3 awards” during the award night He won the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ Grammy for his contribution to ‘Pashto’ alongside Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, featuring Rakesh Chaurasia – a virtuoso flute player, who got two Grammy awards including Global Music Performance and Contemporary Instrumental Album.
Congratulating the group, music composer and Grammy winner Ricky Kej tweeted, “SHAKTI wins a Grammy!!! Through this album 4 brilliant Indian musicians win Grammys!! Just amazing. India is shining in every direction. Shankar Mahadevan, Selvaganesh Vinayakram, Ganesh Rajagopalan, Ustad Zakhir Hussain. Ustad Zakhir Hussain won a second Grammy along with virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia. Brilliant!!!! #IndiaWinsGrammys.”
