Govind Namdev, a veteran actor in the Hindi film industry, has appeared in notable movies like ‘OMG,’ ‘OMG 2,’ ‘Bandit Queen,’ and many others. However, he had a negative experience working with filmmaker Subhash Ghai.
In an exclusive interview with Lehren, the actor revealed that he was traumatized when his role in the movie ‘Saudagar,’ starring Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar, was edited out.
“Ek trauma wala time tha mera, mujhe ek bada role diya gaya tha aur maine uss role ko pura kar liya tha. Fir woh role pura nikal diya gaya. Tab tak maine puri duniya ko bata diya tha ke main Dilip sahab ke saath kaam kar raha hoon, jinhe main guru manta hoon, Raaj Kumar sahab ke saath kaam kar raha hoon, aur Subhash Ghai ke saath bhi kaam kar raha hoon. Sabko bata diya tha. Shooting bhi ho gayi aur jab dubbing ka time aaya, log dubbing kar rahe the, lekin mujhe bulawa nahi aaya tha,” he shared.
He further added, “Aur pehli film matlab Bombay jab aaya, toh pehli film itni badi film thi aur maine sabko bata diya tha mera jo samaan tha, as an actor, as a teacher, as a theatre artist, woh sab samaan saath mein lekar aaya tha. Hua yeh ke 4.30 ghante ke film banaayi unhone, kis tarah se adha ghanta kaat diya, fir 4 ghante bacha, phir thoda aur kaat diya, thoda kam hogaya. Ab kya katein, fir kisi ne unko suggest kiya ke agar yeh character hi nikal du, us taraf lekar hi mat jao, seedha unki kahani shuru kar do. Toh woh dimaag mein unke beath gaya, aur unhone woh character hi pura nikal diya. Toh bahut hee trauma mein raha main uss samay, yehi wajah hai logon ko abhi bata diya hai. Aur jab mein dikhunga hi nahi, toh mere kya izzat rahegi?”
He candidly stated that there are people he has blacklisted, and Subhash Ghai is one of them. He does not meet or talk to them.
Govind Namdev was last seen in ‘OMG 2,’ starring alongside Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi. The movie performed well at the box office.
