This Was The First Bollywood Actor To Feature In James Bond Movie 40 Yrs Ago!

Did you know that a popular Bollywood actor played an antagonist in a James Bond movie 40 years ago?

We are currently obsessed with Bollywood actors making their Hollywood debuts. Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt and Dhanush have been praised for breaking cultural barriers and bagging important roles in Hollywood movies. Even Sonam Kapoor was much hyped for her 2-sec appearance in a Coldplay song. No doubt, we are super obsessed with seeing Indian stars in big-budget foreign films. But did you know that a popular Bollywood star featured in a James Bond movie 40 years ago?

In 1983, Octopussy, the thirteenth film of James Bond series had hit the theatres. Several portions of the film were shot in Udaipur, India. Kabir Bedi, the handsome hunk of Bollywood played the antagonist in the film. His character of Gobinda was dearly loved back then.

It’s been 40 years since the film was released. Looking back in time, Kabir shared a few pictures from the sets of Octopussy and wrote, “40 YEARS TODAY I was first seen as a villain in the James Bond film “OCTOPUSSY” (1983). As the first Indian actor to be cast in a Bond film, it was a real thrill to have shot it at the beautiful and historic Lake Palace Hotel in Udaipur, India, with Roger Moore, Maud Adams, and all the Bond girls.”

Octopussy features Roger Moore as the MI6 agent James Bond. It is touted to be the best British film of the 80s. Made with a budget of $27.5 million, the film grossed approximately $187.5 million.
