Bobby Deol Opens Up About Not Getting Roles In Films: “I Just Took To Drinking A Lot, And I Was Sitting At Home”

In the second episode of "Koffee With Karan 8," Bobby reflects on the period when he was struggling to find work and the toll it took on him and his family.

Actor Bobby Deol is set to make an appearance alongside his brother Sunny Deol on the second episode of Karan Johar’s popular chat show, “Koffee With Karan 8.” The makers have released several intriguing promos of the upcoming episode on social media, promising a candid and revealing conversation with the Deol brothers. During the show, Bobby Deol opens up about the challenging phase in his career and how he regained control of his life.

Bobby Deol had taken a hiatus from the big screen for five years after the release of the 2013 film “Yamla Pagla Deewana 2.” During this time, some of his projects failed to connect with the audience. However, he made a remarkable comeback with the web series “Ashram.”

In the second episode of “Koffee With Karan 8,” Bobby reflects on the period when he was struggling to find work and the toll it took on him and his family. He shared, “I gave up, I started pitying myself. I just took to drinking a lot, and I was sitting at home. I used to keep cursing and saying, ‘Why don’t people hire me? I am good, why don’t they want to work with me?’ I think I became so negative about everything that there was no positivity emanating from me.”

Bobby recounted how a moment with his son served as a turning point: “I heard my son saying, ‘You know, Mom, Papa sits at home, and you go to work every day.’ Something snapped in me. I just said, ‘No, I can’t.’ It was a gradual process, and it took time for me to get into the right frame of mind. It can’t happen overnight,” said the 54-year-old actor.

He went on to emphasize the support he received from his family during these challenging times. Speaking to host and filmmaker Karan Johar, Bobby added, “You cannot always do everything while holding someone’s hand. You have to stand on your own two feet. That’s when things began to change. I became more focused, more serious, and when you’re focused and have that energy, you can approach people. I told myself, ‘I’ll tell them that I want to work with all of you. I came to you as well, and you still haven’t worked with me.'”

On the professional front, Bobby is gearing up for his next film, “Animal,” directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The movie stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, and Rashmika Mandanna and is scheduled for release on December 1, 2023.
