Bastar: The Naxal Story is actually based on and inspired by the real-life story and events surrounding the Naxals in Chattisgarh. The Bastar rebellion, which erupted in 1910, unfolded in what is now Chattisgarh.

Media reports suggest that the film takes cues from historical occurrences such as the Bastar rebellion of 1910, which occurred in present-day Chhattisgarh. The uprising was triggered by the British policy of forest reservation. Several factors contributed to the rebellion, including controversial plans to reserve large forest areas and prohibit activities like shifting cultivation, hunting, and gathering forest resources.
