Bangladeshi Actors And Filmmakers Halt Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ Release In Their Country

Actors, Filmmakers, And Even Some Members Of The Bangladesh Censor Board Have Expressed Their Unhappiness

Shah Rukh Khan, the beloved Bollywood superstar, has once again captured the hearts of his fans with the release of his highly anticipated movie, “Jawan.” The film, which hit theaters with a bang, has been a resounding success, drawing hordes of moviegoers and setting the Indian box office on fire. However, while Khan’s fans in India celebrate this cinematic festival, disappointment looms for his admirers across the border in neighboring Bangladesh, where “Jawan” has been denied a release.

According to Free Press Journal reports, the film failed to secure clearance from Bangladesh’s censor board. The primary reason cited for this decision is the apprehension that “Jawan” could potentially undermine the box office prospects of domestically produced Bangladeshi films.

This decision has not been without controversy, as it has garnered criticism from various quarters, including actors, filmmakers, and members of the Bangladesh censor board itself. Many argue that the exclusion of “Jawan” from the Bangladeshi market might have an adverse impact on the growth and success of the local film industry. Some have even gone so far as to threaten street protests if the film were to be screened on its scheduled release date of September 7.

As of now, the Bangladeshi censor board has not given the green light for the film’s release, leaving fans in Bangladesh uncertain about when or if they will have the opportunity to watch “Jawan” in their local cinemas.

This situation bears a resemblance to the challenges faced during the release of Shah Rukh Khan’s previous blockbuster, “Pathaan,” which eventually made its way to Bangladeshi theaters in May 2023, several months after its worldwide release in January of the same year.

Meanwhile, back in India, “Jawan” has taken the box office by storm. The film’s advance bookings have led to packed theaters throughout the weekend, and early predictions suggest that the SRK-starrer is poised to break records, potentially earning an astounding Rs 70 crore on its opening day. As the world eagerly awaits the film’s fate in Bangladesh, Shah Rukh Khan’s star power continues to shine brightly in the world of Indian cinema.
