Anil Sharma Reveals Challenges Encountered Due To ‘Gadar 2’ Budget, Says ‘Wages Naa Ke Barabar Liye Sab Logon Ne’

Anil Sharma Previously Mentioned That Even Sunny Deol, The Lead Actor, Compromised On His Fee For The Film

Director Anil Sharma, who is basking in the success of his movie ‘Gadar 2,’ which crossed the Rs 500 crore mark at the box office. Has now opened up about the struggles he faced that led to the film’s budget increase. Initially, the budget of the film was set at Rs 40 crore, but it was later increased to Rs 60 crore.

In an interview with Instant Bollywood, Anil said, “Gadar is a brand, the actors are a brand, but the industry wasn’t doing so well at the time; that’s how things work. They couldn’t give me what I wanted, but still, they gave me Rs 60 crore. It wasn’t enough, but it was a lot, considering the situation. All of us, the entire unit, we took minimum wages to cut costs. Wages naa ke barabar liye sab logon ne (we took next to nothing). We took enough to survive and provide for our families, that’s it.”

He mentioned that all the funds were invested in the film’s production, much like the first installment. “Crowds bhi pata nahi kahan se laaye. Logon se request kar kar ke, free mein sansthaon se laaye. Sirf khana denge aur kuch nahi denge, 5000-6000 ka crowd (We arranged for thousands of extras through organisations; we promised them food and nothing else).” And people agreed, mostly due to the love they had for the first film, the director said,” the director explained.

Anil Sharma previously mentioned that even Sunny Deol, the lead actor, compromised on his fee for the film. “We made a genuine effort to control everyone’s fees. Sunny’s fee remained reasonable, and he also made some compromises. Nowadays, heroes and directors demand exorbitant fees, causing budgets to skyrocket to Rs 600 crore. Sometimes, heroes charge Rs 150 crore or even Rs 200 crore,” he shared with Lehren Retro.
