Akshay Kumar’s “OMG 2” is receiving appreciation from all corners, having amassed an impressive collection of Rs 90.65 crore so far. Despite its success, rumours have been circulating regarding the film’s staggering budget of Rs 150 crore. Additionally, there were claims that Akshay Kumar demanded Rs 35 crore for his role in the movie. However, Ajit Andhare, the COO of Viacom 18 Studios and the film’s distributor, refuted these assertions in an interview with PinkVilla. He clarified that Akshay did not receive any payment for his role in the film.
“The reports regarding the budget of ‘OMG 2’ are grossly exaggerated. On the contrary, Akshay didn’t demand a rupee in fee and, in fact, stood shoulder to shoulder with us in both the financial and creative risks tied to such a bold film,” he stated.
He continued, “We share a longstanding history and understanding with him as a studio since ‘OMG,’ ‘Special 26,’ and ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.’ I have been in complete alignment with him in taking up scripts that are unconventional but carry a broader and more meaningful message.”
A source mentioned in the report disclosed that the actual budget of the film is a mere Rs 50 crore. Meanwhile, the compensation received by other cast members for their roles is noteworthy. As reported by English Jagran, Pankaj Tripathi charged Rs 5 crore for his contribution to the movie, while Yami Gautam’s remuneration reached an impressive Rs 8 crore.
The film faced a box office clash with Sunny Deol’s “Gadar 2” on the same day of release. Despite the competition, Sunny’s film emerged as a massive success, surpassing the Rs 300 crore mark in collections.
“OMG 2” serves as the second installment in the series, following the release of “OMG” in 2012. While the first part featured Paresh Rawal as an atheist, the sequel sees Pankaj Tripathi portraying a devotee. The movie aims to challenge societal stereotypes and showcases Yami Gautam in the lead role.
