Over the years, Teachers in our life have been often described as our second parents who not only guide us in academics but also in life – playing a vital role in shaping who we become, and also many times, how they go beyond classrooms to support students, sometimes even teaching for free or uplifting those in need. On this teacher’s day special, let’s revisit some Bollywood films that highlighted inspiring stories of teachers and left a lasting impact by raising important debates around education, inclusivity and social barriers.
Taare Zameen Par (2007)
One of the most iconic films in Indian cinema which stands tall among teacher’s special film is undoubtedly Taare Zameen Par, starring Aamir Khan and Darsheel Safary. It beautifully portrayed the story of Ishaan Awasthi, a child struggling with dyslexia. While society often overlooked children with learning disorders in real-life, this film shed light on their struggles and encouraged parents to understand and support them. Aamir Khan’s character as a compassionate teacher, guided Ishaan to discover his hidden talents and shine among all. And undoubtedly, the movie might have made every child wonder that what if we also had such a teacher in our own lives?

Hichki (2018)
Unlike most films that focus on the struggles of students, Hichki flipped the narrative by presenting the challenges faced by a teacher who has one condition of disability. Rani Mukerji played Naina Mathur who struggled with Tourette Syndrome, a condition that causes involuntary tics and sounds. Despite her disability, she never gave up on her dream of becoming a teacher. The film was a reminder that true teaching is not about perfection but about passion, resilience and inspiring students to embrace differences.

Super 30 (2019)
Hrithik Roshan’s Super 30 was based on the real-life story of Anand Kumar, a mathematician who dedicated his life to teaching underprivileged students for free. His innovative methods and determination helped many of his students secure admission into prestigious institutions like the IITs. The film which also celebrated his vision of breaking barriers and showing that education is a right, not a privilege – which inspired audiences to believe in the power of knowledge and selfless teaching.

Black (2005)
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black was a groundbreaking film that told the moving story of Michelle McNally, a deafblind girl and her bond with her unconventional teacher, played by the legend Amitabh Bachchan. Through patience and unique methods, he brought hope and knowledge into her world of silence and darkness. This heartwarming film also explored how their relationship evolved as the teacher himself struggled with Alzheimer’s, which remains one of the most powerful portrayals of a teacher-student bond in Bollywood.

Sitaare Zameen Par (2025)
Inspired by the legacy of Taare Zameen Par, this film carried forward the message of inclusion. Starring Aamir Khan again, it focuses on a basketball coach who trains a team of teenagers with intellectual disabilities. What makes it even more special is that it casts real-life specially-abled children, giving authenticity to its storytelling. The narrative highlights empathy, teamwork and the incredible potential of students when they are given equal opportunities.

3 Idiots (2009)
Another Aamir Khan led film! While some films celebrated inspiring teachers, 3 Idiots showed the harsh side of the education system. It exposed the flaws of rote learning, extreme pressure on students and teacher’s lack of encouragement for creativity and innovation. Through its story, the film sparked a nationwide debate on how the system often values grades over talent. The film encouraged students and parents to focus on curiosity and mental well-being instead of just academic results.

Apart from these, films like Hindi Medium, Angrezi Medium, Paathshala, Chhichhore and Iqbal also explored education and teaching in different ways where each film carried a message – whether it was about inclusivity, mental health or the financial struggles of students.
Bollywood has given us many stories that remind us of the transformative role teachers play. From nurturing students with special needs to guiding the underprivileged or even challenging rigid systems, these films have started conversations we cannot ignore. On this teacher’s day special, these movies serve as a reminder that education is not just about textbooks – it’s about empathy, courage and changing lives.
