For Rhea Chakraborty, the years after 2020 were not only about surviving a media storm or dealing with her own legal battle. The fallout reached her family too. Her brother was arrested, her father faced a professional setback and the family found itself dealing with a level of public scrutiny they had never expected.
Now, as Rhea begins what she calls her “Chapter 2”, she has opened up about those difficult years while giving Farah Khan a glimpse into her new Mumbai home.
Rhea Chakraborty’s Father Lost A Job Because Of Her Surname
During Farah Khan’s vlog, Rhea spoke about how the controversy following Sushant Singh Rajput’s death affected her father, Indrajit Chakraborty, a retired army officer and former medical professional.
She recalled that her father had secured a senior position as a medical superintendent at a reputed hospital. However, according to Rhea, things changed after the institution discovered his identity.
“Papa got a very big job as a medical superintendent at a very big hospital in town.. and then they found out his surname and said, ‘Sorry, aap Rhea Chakraborty ho toh (You are Rhea Chakraborty’s father so you cannot work here),” she told Farah.
The moment is particularly telling because Rhea was not only speaking about what happened to her, but about how the controversy affected the people closest to her.
Brother Showik Also Faced Legal Trouble
Rhea’s family went through another difficult chapter when her brother, Showik Chakraborty, was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in connection with the drug case linked to Sushant’s death. Rhea herself was also arrested in the case and spent time in jail.
The actor has previously spoken about the lasting impact of the ordeal, including suffering from PTSD. With the CBI’s closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, Rhea was cleared of wrongdoing, bringing some relief after years of scrutiny.
A New Home, A New Chapter
Today, Rhea is slowly rebuilding her life. She recently moved into a new Mumbai home around Linking Road, which she showed Farah Khan during the vlog. The house is still being completed, with the living room and kitchen largely ready while her bedroom and vanity room are still a work in progress.
Farah even joked about finally visiting after an earlier invitation to Rhea’s Goa home did not work out.
Rhea’s father also appeared in the vlog, looking forward to cooking in their new kitchen, while Farah promised them roast chicken.
There is something quietly significant about that moment. After years when her family’s lives were defined by headlines, Rhea is now talking about ordinary things – a home, a kitchen, family and food. Perhaps that is what her “Chapter 2” really means: not forgetting what happened, but finally making space for life beyond it.
