Émilie Dequenne made her film debut with Rosetta (1999), directed by the Dardenne brothers. Her performance won her the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival, and the film itself won the Palme d’Or. This marked the beginning of a career filled with notable performances in French cinema.

She later appeared in films like The Girl on the Train (2009) and Our Children (2012), which earned her further recognition. Her work was widely praised for its authenticity and emotional depth.

In 2024, Émilie Dequenne returned to Cannes to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Rosetta. She was also there to promote Survive, her first English-language disaster movie. Unfortunately, it became her last film, as her illness forced her to step away from acting soon after. Her passing marks a significant loss for the film industry. She leaves behind a body of work that will continue to be remembered.
