Matt Lucas apologizes to Millie Bobby Brown after his post led to backlash. But what exactly did he say, and how did Millie respond? Read on to know more about their exchange.

British actor and comedian Matt Lucas has apologized to Millie Bobby Brown after she reacted to recent comments about her appearance. The Stranger Things actress has spoken out against the constant judgement she faced online, following a post made by Lucas comparing her outfit to a character that he played on his past show.

Matt Lucas had shared a tweet featuring a photo of Millie Bobby Brown in a pink tracksuit with blonde hair tied up in a messy bun. He captioned it with the phrase “No but yeah but”- a well-known catch-phrase from his character Vicky Pollard in the comedy show Little Britain. Some online users saw this as mocking her appearance, leading to the backlash against Lucas.

Realizing the impact of his post, Lucas later issued a public apology. Taking to the Instagram he wrote, “Dear Millie, I just saw your post and wanted to respond, and provide some context. Nearly 25 years ago, I co-wrote and appeared in a sketch show called Little Britain. There was a character in it called Vicky Pollard, who had blonde hair and always wore a pink top, and in the photo, you had blonde hair and wore a pink top, so I pointed out the similarity by posting one of her catchphrases.”

Lucas went on to clarify that he never intended to offend her. “I thought you looked terrific and I was mortified when the press wrote that I ‘slammed’ you, firstly because that’s not my style, and secondly because I think you’re brilliant. I would not have posted it if I had thought it would have upset you, but I realize it has and for that, I apologize. Matt x.”

Matt Lucas’ apology comes after Millie Bobby Brown publicly called out people who criticized over her appearance. The Electric State actress addressed the situation in social media video, discussing the wider issue of public scrutiny. She expressed frustration over constant comments on her appearance saying, “I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can’t seem to grow up with me. Instead, they act like I’m supposed to stay frozen in time.”

She also criticized journalists for writing about her looks, stating, “The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices, is disturbing. And the fact that some of these articles are written by women makes it even worse.” Brown ended her message by standing firm on her choices: “I refuse to make myself smaller to fit unrealistic expectations. I will not be shamed for how I look, how I dress, or how I present myself.”
