Actress Zeenat Aman and one of Bollywood’s most iconic films ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ – the two names that could have been linked in the history of Hindi cinema but fate had other plans. The 1977’s top grossing film is unforgettable for its iconic catchy songs, one-liners and star-studded cast remains a classic even today. However, in a recent exclusive AMA (Ask Me Anything) session Zeenat Aman revealed that she had been offered a role in ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ but turned it down, a decision she now regrets.

During the online interaction with fans on Reddit platform, a user asked, “Is there a role which you regret giving up on?” and guess what Zeenat ji said? She penned down writing, “I have to say that I regret giving up the role I was offered in Amar Akbar Anthony.” She then explained the reason behind her decision “My negotiations with the director/producer (for whom I had just delivered a smash hit) fell through.” But still she stood firm on her decision at the time, she admitted that missing out on the film still lingers in her mind. “I don’t regret holding my ground, but I regret missing out on that role! It seemed such a fun project,” she added.

Over the years, reports have suggested that the role Zeenat Aman turned down was eventually played by Parveen Babi. The two actresses, both style icons of the 70s and 80s, were often compared for their similar on-screen presence. While Zeenat Aman had a successful run with Dharam Veer that same year which became second-highest grossing film of 1977, but she now wonders how different things could have been if she had joined Amar Akbar Anthony instead.
The film, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna witnessed a monumental success in that year – presenting a huge feast for fans by casting industry’s top legendary actors together in one frame , which went on to earn around ₹155 million at the box office.
