Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par is an anticipated Hindi sports comedy-drama film. This film serves as a spiritual successor to Khan’s 2007 movie Taare Zameen Par and features both him and Genelia Deshmukh. It is an official adaptation of the 2018 Spanish film Champions, centering on a suspended basketball coach who is required to complete community service by assisting a team of players with disabilities in their preparation for a tournament. Sitaare Zameen Par is set to be released on 20 June 2025.
Aamir Khan rejected a ₹120 crore proposal from Amazon Prime Video for the digital rights to his forthcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par to support a theatre-first release strategy. He is of the opinion that launching films on streaming services soon after their theatrical debut undermines the experience of attending the cinema.
Khan has conveyed his dedication to revitalizing the conventional theatre industry, which he perceives as deteriorating with every film that is released. He has turned down all OTT proposals for the film, underscoring his allegiance to cinema and his audience.
Rather than adhering to the traditional OTT release strategy, Khan intends to premiere Sitaare Zameen Par in cinemas initially. Following its theatrical exhibition, the film will be accessible on YouTube via a pay-per-view system, enabling viewers to watch it online without requiring a subscription. This strategy seeks to broaden the film’s reach, particularly in smaller towns and cities, while preserving the integrity of the theatrical experience.
Khan’s choice has received backing from Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, who urged him to embrace risks and trust his instincts. Despite the financial uncertainties, Khan is resolute in his conviction that this approach will rejuvenate the theatre industry and offer a more enriching viewing experience for audiences.
Aamir Khan’s refusal of the ₹120 crore OTT proposal for Sitaare Zameen Par demonstrates his commitment to maintaining the traditional cinema experience while investigating alternative distribution methods that emphasize audience interaction rather than short-term financial profit.
