TP Madhavan, a well-known actor in Malayalam cinema, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 88 in a hospital in Kollam. He had been living alone at Gandhibhavan in Pathanamthitta for the past nine years. Madhavan began his acting career in 1975 with the film Raagam, which launched a successful journey that lasted 37 years until 2012. His last role was in the 2016 film Malgudi Days.
Over his career, Madhavan acted in more than 600 films. He was first known for playing villain roles but later became famous for his comedy and character parts. Some of his notable movies include Ayyaal, Nadodikkattu, Ananthabhadram, Sandesham and Pandippada. His work has left a significant mark on Malayalam cinema, earning him a place in the hearts of many fans.
In his later years, TP Madhavan faced challenges with memory loss but remained passionate about acting. He continued to perform in television serials while living at Gandhibhavan. In May 2022, actress Navya shared her emotions when she met him at the Rural Film Institute Film Awards, surprised to find him there after working together in many films.
Madhavan’s passing led to condolences from many, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who praised his talent and versatility. He was also the first General Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), helping to shape the organization. His funeral will take place at Santhi Kavadam in Thiruvananthapuram.
Madhavan is survived by his daughter, Devika, and his son, Raja Krishna Menon, who is a noted director in Bollywood. His contributions to cinema will be cherished by fans and colleagues alike.
