Sooryavanshi & ’83 To Get A Theatrical Or OTT Release?

Speculations hover over Sooryavanshi and ’83 if both the films will get a proper theatrical release or will get a release on OTT platforms. Read below to know more.

The release of this year’s much-awaited films- Sooryavanshi and 83 got indefinitely postponed due to coronavirus outbreak. If the things were normal, then Akshay Kumar starrer Sooryavanshi would have been successfully playing in the theatres and cricket lovers would have geared up for the release of ’83 featuring Ranveer Singh.

Meanwhile, the fate of both films just hangs in the air as no one knows when things will get back to normalcy. Because of which many speculate that both the films might have a direct OTT release rather than a proper theatrical release.

But in a recent clarification, Reliance Entertainment Group, CEO, Shibashish Sarkar said that there is no way that these much-awaited films would directly release on OTT platforms. Later in an interview, Sarkar confirmed, “As per the situation right now, we foresee that even if the normalcy takes another 3-6 months of time, we are mentally clear that we want to give both the films a proper theatrical release.”

Talking about films releasing on OTT platform, Angrezi Medium starring Irrfan Khan and Radhika Madan got a release on an OTT platform after running in the theatres for 4-5 days before the government shut down the theatres due to the coronavirus scare. The film is receiving an overwhelming response from the audience on the OTT platform and everyone is rooting for the characters in the film, especially for Irrfan Khan.

Currently in India, the novel coronavirus hasn’t spread as it did in the USA, Italy or Spain but to be cautious the government has enforced a lockdown to combat the spread of the disease. But with a daily rise in the patients infected by the COVID-19, there is a possibility that the government might extend the lockdown.

If the lockdown extends then Bollywood will suffer as many films have their shooting halted which will lead to a delay in everything in the future.

Sarkar had denied a scenario of these much-awaited films to get an OTT release. He also mentioned that Sooryvanshi and ’83 has its main market overseas in countries like the Middle East, North America, and the United Kingdom. He said that they will wait for normalcy to return to these territories until then the will hold both the film’s theatrical release.
