Sooraj Barjatya’s Highly Successful Film, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Was Initially Declined by Shah Rukh Khan and Two Other Notable Stars.

Hum Saath Saath Hain iconic film from the 1990s was originally offered to Shah Rukh Khan, who declined the opportunity at that time. The film featured a diverse ensemble cast.

Shah Rukh Khan attained his illustrious status through relentless dedication to his craft and a commitment to his roles. In a short span, he captivated audiences and earned the title of ‘King Khan’. Like many actors, he has turned down opportunities to collaborate on projects featuring prominent names that subsequently achieved great success. One notable example is a family drama released in 1999, produced by Rajshri Productions. The narrative revolves around a wealthy joint family that becomes estranged due to misunderstandings, ultimately finding their way back to unity.

“Hum Saath Saath Hain” This film boasted an extensive ensemble cast and marked the director’s third endeavor. During the 1990s, Shah Rukh Khan had already made a significant impact with blockbuster hits such as Dilwale Dulhaniya Lejayenge, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. When Barjatya approached the emerging star, Khan declined the offer at that time.

Meanwhile, Salman Khan had previously collaborated with Barjatya and recognized his talent for crafting family-oriented narratives. The role of Vinod, the youngest of three brothers, was ultimately awarded to Saif Ali Khan after Shah Rukh Khan’s refusal.

Sooraj Barjatya disclosed in a previous interview that Shah Rukh Khan was initially considered for the role played by Saif Ali Khan in the film “Hum Saath Saath Hain.” While Salman Khan was ultimately cast as Prem, Mohnish Bahl was not the original choice for his role either. The character of Vivek was first offered to Anil Kapoor and subsequently to Rishi Kapoor, both of whom declined the opportunity. The film features Salman Khan and Sonali Bendre in leading roles, alongside Saif Ali Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Mohnish Bahl, and Tabu.

In the same discussion, the director also explained the absence of Madhuri Dixit from the film. Sooraj Barjatya remarked, “I informed her, ‘Madhuri, I am creating a male-centric film, and if I cast you alongside Salman, your role would be quite limited. Conversely, if I pair you with Mohnish Bahl, you would be portraying bhabhi to Salman Khan.’” He added, “She is such a wonderful person; she responded, ‘It doesn’t matter, it is a pleasure to collaborate.’ However, I expressed that I would not feel comfortable with that arrangement.”

The film was produced with a budget of Rs 10 crores and emerged as one of the top-grossing films of that year, earning more than Rs 81 crores.
