Popular South Indian singer Kalpana Raghavendar was rushed to a hospital in Hyderabad after being found unconscious at her residence in Nizampet. The incident led to widespread speculation with many assuming it was a suicide attempt. However now Kalpana Raghavendar’s daughter Daya Prasad Prabhakar has now spoken out dismissing the claims and urging people not to spread misinformation.
What Actually Happened?
Reports initially suggested that Kalpana was unresponsive when police entered her home by breaking down the kitchen door. She was immediately taken to Holistic Hospital, raising concerns about her health and whether her husband was involved in any way. The rumours intensified when it was revealed that Kalpana’s husband was in Chennai at the time, leading to further questions about their relationship.
Kalpana Raghavendar’s Daughter Sets the Record Straight
As per the video shared by NewsMeter on X, addressing the media Kalpana Raghavendar’s daughter, Daya Prasad Prabhakar, made it clear that this was not a suicide attempt. She explained that her mother was under stress and had accidentally taken an overdose of her insomnia medication which led to unconsciousness. “It was just a slight overdose of sleeping pills because of stress. This is not a suicide attempt. Please don’t manipulate and mislead the information. No dispute in our family,” Daya clarified.
She further reassured fans that their family is doing well and that Kalpana will personally address everyone once she recovers.
Medical Condition and Treatment
Doctors at the hospital confirmed that Kalpana had taken sleeping pills, which resulted in water accumulation in her liver. As a precaution, her stomach was washed, but this led to breathing difficulties. Following this, a CT scan of her chest and brain was conducted, revealing a condition known as “stress-induced palmar edema.” Doctors placed her on a ventilator initially but have now moved her from the ICU to a general ward, confirming that she is out of danger.

Kalpana’s husband, who was in Chennai at the time, flew to Hyderabad as soon as he heard the news. However, police took him into custody for questioning due to rising concerns about his absence and why he had not been in contact with her for days.
While speculation ran high, Kalpana Raghavendar’s daughter has made it clear that there is no family dispute and that this was an unfortunate medical incident rather than a suicide attempt. The singer is expected to recover soon and will address her well-wishers directly in the coming days.
