Sardaar Ji 3, a Punjabi horror-comedy featuring Diljit Dosanjh, includes Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. The trailer was released on 22 June 2025, and the film had its overseas premiere on 27 June, bypassing Indian theatres due to escalating tensions after the Pahalgam terror attack.

The FWICE (Federation of Western India Cine Employees) has addressed a letter to Prime Minister Modi, denouncing the actions of Diljit, the producers, and director Amar Hundal in hiring Hania as a “gross betrayal” and a “willful affront to the sovereignty, dignity, and security of India.” They have requested the revocation of passports, cancellation of citizenship, and blacklisting within India.

Additionally, they have called for Diljit’s removal from other patriotic projects such as Border 2, as it is seen to contradict national sentiment. FWICE’s position includes advocating for boycotts of his filmography, the suspension of his streaming and performance activities, and an investigation into the funding of Sardaar Ji 3.

Diljit asserts that Sardaar Ji 3 was filmed in February prior to the Pahalgam attack, during which there were no restrictions. The choice to release the film internationally stemmed from escalating tensions rather than a creative decision. He also shared enigmatic messages on social media—”Censored before release?”—which ignited speculation regarding a stance against censorship.

Certain Bollywood figures, including Sonakshi Sinha, have criticized the casting, highlighting the importance of national reciprocity in artistic partnerships. Punjabi artist Guru Randhawa made a cryptic post that was interpreted as an indirect criticism of Diljit’s decision.

In Pakistan, host Nadia Khan supported Diljit, referring to him as a “fearless Sikh brother” for his casting choice. B Praak’s vague comments on social media—”sold their conscience”—further intensified the discussion.

Sardaar Ji 3 is set for an international release on June 27. Currently, neither Diljit Dosanjh nor the film’s producers have provided an official statement regarding the controversy.
