The movie boycott culture seems to have reached down south as well. So far we have been witnessing the Indian audiences boycotting Hindi movies. Laal Singh Chaddha, Raksha Bandhan, Chhapaak and Shamshera are just a few names on the long list of boycotted movies. On the other hand, South Indian movies and their superstars have been heaping praises for their honesty, modesty and good content. But the fire seems to have spread beyond Bollywood as fans are now boycotting Telugu movie Liger.
Telugu superstar Vijay Deverakonda and Bollywood diva Ananya Panday have been non-stop promoting their upcoming movie Liger. It is a sports action film directed by Puri Jagannadh. It has been shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi, thus, marking Vijay’s Hindi debut. Liger is being backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
Five days before the film’s release, #BoycottLiger is trending on Twitter. People are citing different reasons for the same. While some are calling Vijay Deverakonda arrogant, others are unhappy that he advocated against Laal Singh Chaddha‘s boycott. The rest have simply boycotted because Karan Johar is the producer of the film.
Check out a few tweets:
“LIGER Hero Devarakonda at his home Sitting on sofa, see pooja things on teapoy Today & all 3 archakas are standing and LIGER with a girl sitting shamelessly We r much more shameless if we watch his movies. #BoycottLiger”

“Vijay Deverkonda blackmails Indians for families of film making crew. Indians have taken contract to look after these families. Vijay Jee, you must convince Bollywood why they make jokes of Hindu Deities while 80% population is Hindu in India.”
“Every tollywood star sent condolence tweet for appu after death but @TheDeverakonda didn’t So much of attitude. #BoycottLigerMovie in Karnataka”

“#BoycottLigerMovie which is produced by Karan Johar”
“Yes. He is arrogance personified. He uses filthy language in the public and makes obscene gestures. Even before release of his first film in hindi he thinks and acts like a bollywoodian. His Arjun reddy is the begining of moral degradation of telugu youth.”
Recently, Vijay Deverakonda spoke on the boycott of Laal Singh Chaddha. He said to India Today, “There are 200-300 actors working on a film and all of us have staff members, so a film gives employment to many people and is a source of livelihood for many. When Aamir Khan Sir makes a Laal Singh Chaddha, it is his name that features prominently in the film, but there are 2000-3000 families that are being provided for.”
Vijay Deverakonda’s upcoming movie Liger will release in theatres on 25 August 2022.
