Bollywood’s charming hero Ranbir Kapoor is being discussed on social media for the wrong reasons. Once perceived as a ‘chocolatey boy’ is now being called ‘insensitive’ and ‘moron’. The actor made fun of his pregnant wife Alia Bhatt during a live interview. As Alia has gained weight due to her pregnancy, Ranbir made a joke which isn’t going well with the netizens.
It happened when Alia was talking about Brahmastra promotions and said, “We will promote the film, and we will be everywhere but if the question you are asking is why we are not phailod (talking about widespread promotion) everywhere, right now our focus is…” Ranbir Kapoor immediately pointed at Alia Bhatt’s baby bump and said, “well I can say somebody has phailod (indicating her gaining weight). He immediately added that he meant the comment as a joke.
This isn’t the first time Ranbir has made an insensitive joke on a woman publically. A few years ago, the Brahmastra actor made a mean statement on Anushka Sharma’s health issues.
Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma have worked together in the Hindi film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Anushka never talked about her anxiety issues in public but her co-star Ranbir Kapoor knew about it. While Anushka chose to keep these issues to herself, Ranbir went on record and called Anushka ‘anxiety queen’. He also funnily mentioned that Anushka takes medication for anxiety. He said, “She has to pop a pill even if she wants to have a conversation. I have seen her do that. She pops anxiety killers, what are they called?”
Anushka was unhappy with Ranbir’s statement and she called him ‘a horrible person’. In revenge, she stated that Ranbir does drugs. She said, “He does drugs so that he can be a little more upbeat because he has such a subtle personality otherwise” while making hand gestures of doing drugs.
Ranbir was called ‘insensitive’ back then and he is being labelled ‘insensitive’ now as well. Fans are upset with the actor’s statement. As he made fun of Alia’s Bhatt pregnancy weight, people slammed him right, left and centre. A user wrote, “That was mean to say tht in public or private to his pregnant wife.”
“Eh, it isnt even a good joke. Most women already have a hard time accepting the changes pregnancy brings to their bodies, joking about it is just insensitive,” reads another comment.
On the work front, Ranbir was last seen in Shamshera. His next release is Brahmastra, also starring Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna.
