In the surprising turn of events, the renowned producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor are making headlines since few days now. After being booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the IT Act and Section 295-A of the IPC for their involvement in a controversial episode of the web series Gandi Baat, aired on ALT Balaji, which allegedly featured minor girls.
On October 22, the reports were also circulating around the internet that both producer Ekta Kapoor and mother Shobha Kapoor have been questioned by the police regarding the matter and the authorities have also requested documentation related to the production of the show.
Now, amid this ongoing investigation, the official social media account of ALTT (the production company) released a lengthy statement on Instagram. They clarified that any claims regarding the engagement of minors in their productions are “entirely incorrect.” The statement further explained that both Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor do not manage day-to-day operations. Instead, those responsibilities lie with separate teams, including content strategy.
The statement concluded by expressing confidence in the judicial process and emphasized that the company is fully cooperating with the investigation. It also noted that since the matter is currently sub-judice, they would refrain from making detailed comments.
The allegations state that Gandi Baat featured explicit scenes involving young girls who may be underage, raising serious concerns. The complainant indicated that some characters appeared to resemble minors aged 16 or 17. Furthermore, there were complaints about smoking and drinking scenes that lacked appropriate warnings. The specific episode in question aired between February and April 2021 but has since been removed from the platform.
Previously, an FIR was also filed against Producer Ekta Kapoor for allegedly disrespecting the national emblem, Hindu deities and army personnel in the web series XXX on ALT Balaji. In response, Ekta’s team confirmed that the controversial scene had been taken down.
