Pritam REACTS To Plagiarism Allegations Against BLACKPINK’s Jennie New Album: “No One Is Deliberately…”

Music creator Pritam and BLACKPINK’s Jennie are caught in a plagiarism debate, but Pritam finally speaks out. His take on the controversy may surprise you—read on to find out what he had to say!

K-Pop star BLACKPINK’s Jennie recently announced her upcoming song Like Jennie which is set to release this Friday. However, even before its launch, controversy erupted when fans pointed out similarities between the teaser and Rani’s Theme from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, a 2023 Bollywood film starring Alia Bhatt. The teaser, released on Tuesday, features a catchy beat with vocals chanting Jennie’s name which some listeners found strikingly similar to the theme composed by Pritam for Alia’s character Rani.

Many Bollywood fans took to social media, questioning the resemblance and accusing Jennie of copying the track. And meanwhile, the online debate escalated, many wondered why Pritam had remained silent. Now, the composer has finally addressed the situation.

Taking to the instagram, in response to the ongoing accusations – the renowned Indian music composer Pritam Chakraborty has dismissed concerns over plagiarism and surprisingly backed BLACKPINK’s Jennie.

He wrote, “Rani and Jennie are names that rhyme, so a similar flow in one phrase doesn’t make it a copy. In music, minor similarities are bound to happen — whether through rhymes, phrasing, or even within the same genre.”

Further adding, “Instead of focusing on tiny details, it’s important to see the bigger picture. In today’s interconnected world, where artists share the same platforms, no one is deliberately trying to copy someone else’s work. Creating a song takes immense effort, and if an artist truly resonates with an idea, they can simply collaborate.”

Concluding his statement, Pritam emphasized creativity over criticism stating, “Music is about creativity, unique artistic perspective, influence, and sometimes pure coincidence—especially when artists exist on the same creative wavelength. Rather than tearing artists down, celebrating their work makes far more sense.” He then wished Jennie well, saying, “Wishing Jennie all the best for her new album!”

With Pritam and BLACKPINK’s Jennie at the center of this debate, the controversy isn’t likely to die down soon. As Like Jennie nears its release, all eyes are on how it will be received.
