Prince Harry Honored with Pat Tillman Award at The ESPYS

Prince Harry, the younger son of the Royal British family was honoured with the Pat Tillman Award for his Service, on Wednesday at The ESPY Awards. Harry had served for over 10 years in the British military. The man also created the Invictus Games in 2014, a multi-sport, paralympic-style game for all the injured and wounded servicemen.

While having his proud wife, Meghan on his side, Prince gave an emotional speech on this award. He said, “This award belongs to them, not me”. He further added, “The truth is I do not stand here as Prince Harry, Pat Tillman award recipient, but as a voice on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation, and the thousands of veterans and service personnel from over 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games a reality.”

In his speech, Harry also talked about the Tillman family, and the “eternal bond” between mother Mary, and her son Pat

However, the Harry was stunned to face the backlash on his nomination and honour of the award. Tilman’s mother, Mary, herself expressed her disappointment in choosing Harry for the award. She did not feel honouring a “controversial and divisive figure” like Harry was right.

“There are recipients that are far more fitting. Individuals are working in the veteran community and are doing tremendous things to assist veterans. ‘These individuals do not have the money, resources, connections or privilege that Prince Harry has. I feel that those types of individuals should be recognised.”, she said.

Meghan Markle gave a standing ovation to her husband for the achievement he received and seemed to be super-happy at the show. This three-hour show on ABC was delayed to be telecasted as Biden’s news conference went a little long.
