Mukesh Khanna Not Convinced With Ranbir Kapoor ‘s Portrayal Of Lord Ram

In a new chat with Mid-day, Mukesh Khanna reacted to the makers’ choice of casting Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama. He said, “I won’t say anything about this, if I do, they’ll accuse me of commenting about everyone and everything. They’ve ruined my reputation. I recently commented about Jackie Shroff’s son… Mai Badtameez nahi hoon, mai bebaak hu. If they’re making a story like Ramayana, comparisons with Arun Govil will be inevitable“.

Further in the interaction, Mukesh Khanna was asked if he finds any other actor deeming fit to play the role of Lord Ram. To this, Khanna stated that the performance done by Arun Govil in the past is gold standard, and anybody who plays the character of Ram, should really embody Ram, and not look like Raavan. He added, “In reality, if your are a lampat chhichhora (weird hooligan), then it will clealry be seen on the screen. If you’re playing Ram, you’re not allowed to party and drink. But who am I to decide who plays Ram.” Mukesh Khanna stressed on the fact that Ranbir recently acted in the film Animal, and gained a lot of recognition for his gray shade character. Thus, that character should not impact on the latest role of Lord RAM in Ranbir Kapoor.

Mukesh Khanna, in the interview even highlighted how Prabhas did not receive the right attention from fans when he did ‘Adipurush’, because people could not accept him in the role of Shri Ram. “The actor playing Ram now is the beacon of the Kapoor family. He’s a fine actor… But I will look at his face, and he should look like Ram“, Khanna added further.

Talking about the film Ramayana, Nitesh Tiwari is ready to bring the first part of the film during Diwali 2026. The film will star Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, and Sai Pallavi as Ma Sita. Several media reports also suggest that Sunny Deol might join the film cast to perform the role of ‘Lord Hanuman’.
