Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar was never active on social media, but there was one rare occasion when she went live on Instagram. Music composer Lalit Pandit recently recalled this moment in an interview with Lehren. It happened during the 25th anniversary celebration of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge amid the COVID-19 pandemic. While singers Udit Narayan, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, and Lalit Pandit were present, Lata Mangeshkar joined through a phone call. She fondly spoke about knowing Jatin-Lalit since their childhood and shared her connection with them.
Lalit Pandit shared an interesting memory from his childhood when he recorded a song with Lata Mangeshkar. At that time, he was too young to even read Hindi properly and had to stand on a stool to reach the microphone. He recalled how surreal it felt to sing alongside her at such an early age. This memory stayed with him as a cherished milestone in his journey as a musician.
Lalit Pandit also reflected on how time had changed. Years after recording with Lata Mangeshkar as a child, he later had the opportunity to work with her as a composer. He remembered composing music for Dev Anand’s film and even taking Lata Mangeshkar’s rehearsals before recording a song. It was a full-circle moment for him, as he had grown from a young boy in awe of her talent to a musician working with her professionally. He expressed deep gratitude for witnessing this transformation in his career.
