The recent Tamil epic action fantasy movie released in multiple languages on November 14, ‘Kanguva’ directed by Siva made a roaring start at the box office. The film starring Suriya, Bobby Deol, Disha Patani in the pivotal roles opened to mixed reviews from critics and netizens alike. Despite varied word of mouth, ‘Kanguva’ day 1 box office collection surpasses opening record of recent released Tamil film ‘Amaran’.
As per the reports in Sacnilk, ‘Kanguva’ day 1 box office has garnered with estimated Rs 22 crore net in India and it is said to have raked in nearly Rs 40 crore globally, marking highest opening of Suriya’s career and becomes third highest-grosser Tamil movie of 2024. The Siva directorial film had an occupancy rate of 30-40% in theatres across the country.
The occupancy rate is impressive, because 50-60% occupancy is often seen during Kollywood’s highest fan-following stars Rajinikanth and Thalapathy Vijay film releases. Surpassing Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Amaran’ opening collection of Rs 17 crore net in India, which was released on October 31, 2024 and is still running in theatres.
‘Kanguva’ takes viewers back to 1,500 years ago, telling the story of a fierce tribal warrior dedicated to protecting his people. Initially set to release alongside Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan, Kanguva now enjoys a solo release window in Tamil Nadu, premiering on 11,000 screens globally in eight languages. Alongside the original Tamil version, the film is available in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, English, French, Spanish, Chinese and Japanese, extending its reach across diverse audiences.
The film is produced by K. E. Gnanavel, Raja V. Vamsi Krishna Reddy, and Pramod Uppalapati under the banners of Studio Green and UV Creations. After the successful theatrical run, ‘Kanguva’ is reportedly set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video.
