Kamal Haasan Sparks Controversy with Language Remark, Faces Backlash Over Kannada-Tamil

Kamal Haasan's remark, 'Kannada Was Born Out of Tamil', has sparked significant controversy. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) is demanding that the seasoned actor issue an apology, threatening to prevent the release of Thug Life in the state if he does not comply. However, the actor remains unwilling to apologize, recently asserting, "If I'm wrong, I'll apologize. If I'm not, I won't. This is my lifestyle."

Kamal Haasan has ignited considerable controversy with his recent comments made at a promotional event for his forthcoming film Thug Life. He asserted that Kannada “originated from Tamil,” a statement that has provoked extensive protests and calls for an apology throughout Karnataka. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has demanded an unconditional apology from Haasan, cautioning that if he does not comply, the film may face a ban in the state.

In light of the criticism, Haasan has explained that his remark stemmed from a place of affection for the Kannada language and its culture. He stressed that his aim was not to cause offense, but rather to underscore the common cultural heritage that exists between speakers of Tamil and Kannada.

Despite his explanation, the controversy has escalated. Significantly, Kannada actress Divya Spandana has openly called for Haasan to issue an apology for his statements. The atmosphere remains charged as conversations persist regarding the possible effects on the release of Thug Life, which is set for June 5, 2025.

Directed by Mani Ratnam, the Tamil film Thug Life is scheduled for release on June 5, 2025. It will be dubbed and made available in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. We are curious to see if, following the considerable controversy, the film will receive an unobstructed release in Karnataka. Let’s wait and see!
